Classroom assignments for Spring 2025 have been posted, and instructors of those courses will be notified shortly.
There are three locations where you may view the section information for your classes:
- Course Roster in ESTHER: This will contain the section meeting date/time and location. This is the most efficient way to find your section meeting date/time and location.
- Banner Course Search: This will contain the section meeting date/time and location.
- Course Schedule: This will contain the section meeting date/time only; it does not include the meeting location.
If you would like to request an adjustment to the assigned room, please go into CourseLeaf CLSS, make a comment describing the request in the Comments section, and submit. We will address the requests as we receive them, but we would ask for some patience in processing them as the classroom landscape for Spring 2025 is very tight and will require some creative problem-solving for requests during some time blocks.
If you have not done so already and have courses in a Department Controlled Room, please enter the room assignment in Comments by January 7, 2025, so that we can get those posted as well.
Classroom Resources
Meeting Time Restrictions Lifted
Several sections that were scheduled to be offered in time slots that were already depleted of OTR Controlled Rooms have been canceled. Because of this, we have reopened the following times for you to schedule sections:
- Wednesday 11:00 am ‐ 11:50 am
- Tuesday and Thursday 10:50 am ‐ 12:05 pm
What this means for you:
- If you want to request an OTR Controlled Room for one of these slots—either by creating a new section or moving a section from a departmentally controlled room—you can select it in CLSS.
- If no students are enrolled and you wish to change the time of a section scheduled in an OTR Controlled Room to one of these slots, you can update the meeting time. If at least one student is enrolled, please refer to the Reminders section below for further instructions.
- If the section is already scheduled in any of those time slots and you wish to change the room type to OTR Controlled Room, you can update the room accordingly.
Space Constraints
Space is depleted during the following times:
- Tuesday and Thursday 1:00 pm ‐ 2:15 pm
- Tuesday and Thursday 2:30 pm ‐ 3:45 pm
- Tuesday and Thursday 4:00 pm ‐ 5:15 pm
This means you will not be able to move a section requiring an OTR Controlled Room into any of these time slots or update the room to an OTR Controlled Room if the section is already scheduled in these time slots. Additionally, you will not be able to create a new section in these time slots that requires an OTR Controlled Room.
If you already have a section scheduled in any of these time slots, you are unaffected by this restriction. However, if you need to update the schedule for any section or add a new section to meet in any of these time slots, you must supply a Department Controlled Room.
Reminders
Please remember that you will be restricted with what you can do in CLSS for sections that have enrollment. For any section or cross-list group that has at least one student enrolled, you will not be able to change: instructional method, meeting time, part of term (session), status (from active to canceled), and waitlist information. (Important: if you have a waitlist on your course and enrollment exists, you will not be able to remove it, although you will be able to add one.) If you need to update a restricted value when enrollment exists, you will need to:
- Drop max enrollment to 0.
- Notify all students to drop the section. (If they are to register for another section, also notify them to register for that new section, which you should create before emailing them.)
- Cancel the section by changing the Status to “Cancelled” once all students have dropped the section. If you have notified students and several days have passed but there is still registration in the section, please contact us (registrar@rice.edu), and we may be able to expedite the drop process.
You will be able to continue to add sections to the schedule up until the end of the second week of the Spring 2025 semester (1/24/2025). Please keep in mind that if you add or change any sections, you will still be required to adhere to the 2/3 Prime Time Rule for scheduling.
