The Spring 2026 Course Schedule deadline is approaching. Please finalize your schedule.
Good afternoon,
As a reminder, this Sunday, October 26th, is the deadline for you to enter any course schedule changes into CLSS for the Spring 2026 schedule.
Next week, we will lock CLSS so that all sections still in a workflow queue can make it through the pertinent workflows. After all sections have made it through, we will reopen CLSS for any last-minute changes before the ESTHER Course Registration Request Process opens on 10/31. After the Request Process opens until the start of the semester, you will still be able to make minor changes to your schedule (e.g., adding individual sections, changing instructors, changing final exam information).
Important Information About the Upcoming Weeks
While the ESTHER Course Registration Request Process is open until it is processed (10/31 – 11/17), you will not be able to change meeting times in CLSS for any section or cancel a section if a student has entered them as a registration request.Additionally, you will be restricted with what you can do in CLSS for these sections (and sections that have actual enrollment). You will not be able to change: instructional method, meeting time, part of term (session), status (from active to canceled), and waitlist information.
If you need to change one of these before 11/17, contact registrar@rice.edu.
If you need to change one of these and it is on or after 11/17, you will need to: 1) drop max enrollment to 0; 2) create a new section with the correct information; 3) notify all students to drop the section and register for the new section; 4) cancel the incorrect section after all students have dropped.
Very important: Please review any and all enrollment caps on all sections (especially cross-listed courses), whether cross-listed with other departments or UG/GR Equivalents. Many of you added sections that were not cross-listed, and our office cross-listed them for you. We want you to make sure the max enrollment caps are set up the way you want them set up. Some of the caps are a little off because the cross-listing was not taken into consideration when the sections were added. If you do not review the caps, you may have problems during registration (e.g., over or under-enrollment). Because it is not possible for us to know what these caps really should be, it is your responsibility to make sure the caps are correct. Please remember that the LEAD department must notify all cross-listed departments when adding new sections.
Classrooms - IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Please review the room attributes you’ve submitted for your sections to ensure we have the correct information for them. You can see the room attributes for all your sections at one time by using the Export-->CSV function from your schedule. All room attributes and requests should have been added by now, but please review and correct them as necessary, with all changes being made no later than 11/5.

This means you will not be able to move a section requiring an OTR Scheduled Room into any of these time slots or update the room to an OTR Scheduled Room if the section is already scheduled in these time slots. Additionally, you will not be able to create a new section in these time slots that requires an OTR Scheduled Room.
If you already have a section scheduled in any of these time slots, you are unaffected by this restriction. However, if you need to update the schedule for any section or add a new section to meet in any of these time slots, you must supply a Department Controlled Room.
