This Thursday (12/04) is the deadline for Summer 2026 course offerings to be reviewed by the Deans’ offices and processed in the CourseLeaf CLSS workflow.

Good morning,

This email is a reminder of the upcoming deadline and provides information about visiting high school students.

Deadlines

  • Thursday, December 4: Deadline for the first slate of proposed Summer 2026 course offerings to be reviewed by Deans’ offices and approved/rejected in CourseLeaf CLSS workflow.
  • Friday, December 5: Submitted Summer 2026 Course Schedule available in CourseLeaf CLSS for departments and Deans’ offices to review for all classes. Summer 2026 Course Schedule formally posted on courses.rice.edu. Summer 2026 registration officially opens in ESTHER. Admission and registration process for (Summer 2026) visiting students officially opens (for visiting students, including visiting online and visiting high school students, to apply for Rice visiting student status). Registration is contingent on admission.

Visiting High School Students

In order for a visiting high school student to register for a Summer 2026 class:

  • The student must be approved by the Glasscock School to take courses.
  • The course requested must be designated in CourseLeaf CLSS as eligible for high school students. (See below for processing information.)

How to Request a Course to be Eligible for Visiting High School Students

First, you will need to poll your instructors to inquire if they will allow Visiting High School Students into the course. If you submit a request, we will assume that you have already done this and that they have agreed.

IMPORTANT: Once a course is approved to be eligible for Visiting High School Students, it cannot be removed from the approval list.

The rest of the process will be handled entirely within CLSS. Open (or create) a section that you would like to allow Visiting High School Students to be able to take

  1. Click the pencil icon next to Section Attributes
  2. Click the green plus symbol
  3. Using the dropdown, select “High School VS Eligible”
  4. Click “Accept”
  5. Place any pre-requisites a high school student may need to successfully complete the course in the Comments section
  6. Submit the section through workflow as you normally would
  7. The course will be routed through all necessary workflow approvals

Note: Per the 2026 summer pilot for high school students, the Glasscock School will admit or deny students based on prerequisites, and instructors will not need to provide further review. Questions can be directed to Rick Brennan, Executive Director of Summer Sessions and PreCollege Programs.
